This is the most magnificent quote about what I’ve found when trying to draw from imagination. It takes an incredible amount of energy and concentration for it to turn out, at all. Rather than having the reference in front of you, you must hold the reference in your mind, and this, not just in some general sense. You must imagine the texture of your subject’s clothes, and the patches of grass on the ground.
