Hebrews 11

Focal Verse | And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 ESV) |
Notes | In chapter 10, the author of Hebrews encourages us to gain assurance of our faith, and in chapter 11, they show how saints throughout history have only been able to please God with faith. We are not, here discussing the origin of our faith, rather, showing its importance in our relationship to God. It is impossible to please God without faith. Also, let us never fall into dispensational thinking as so many 1 have done in our day, thinking that in the Old Testament, saints were saved through works, whilst in the New Testament they are saved through faith. All saints throughout all times have been saved through faith. 2 |
It is somewhat ironic, though not unexpected, that those denominations that fall into this dispensational way of thinking,…who further, believe us to be in the dispensation of faith, yet they end up being some of the most legalistic denominations. ↩︎
These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. (Hebrews 11:13 ESV) ↩︎
