Notes | After choosing His Apostles, Jesus descends the mountain, and addresses the multitudes there. There is a distinction made between Jesus’ disciples, and “a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon,” that had come to be healed by Jesus. Jesus’ address begins with the Beatitudes, a set of blessings and curses set aside for different groups of people. These are given in the form of an Oracle. Make note of who these oracles were presented to, it was not the multitude, but His disciples. (v.20, “And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples,…” Luke 6:20 ESV) |
