Crewing Up

·2 mins

I’m excited about conceiving and completing a film this year. Still, one thing that has always made me trepidatious about setting a goal like this is the collaborative nature of filmmaking. A film (even a short one) is an imposing undertaking involving lots of different specialities and responsibilities. I’ve always been a person who seeks to understand fully the creative endeavours I undertake. (I’m sure this feeds directly into my career as a research engineer.) It’s not enough to have a passing knowledge of how to accomplish things. I need to understand *why *things are done this way. I need to understand the caveats and troubleshooting steps to take when things don’t go as planned.

You can only learn these lessons by getting out there and making mistakes.

To make those mistakes, I need people willing to come alongside me to teach and learn from others.

Luckily, in this area, there are a lot of creative people. Now I need to collect contact information and begin compiling a list of people interested in helping. The plan is to create a flyer that can be posted in local universities and creative groups in the area that will direct people to a landing page that explains a little bit about the Backlot 2023 Film Incubator.
