In 1896 an investigator is called to help on a grisly murder case that is eerily similar to another case he worked just eight months earlier in a city 50 miles away. As the case progresses, the investigator becomes convinced he is dealing with something much more sinister than a simple copycat killer.
A stenographer in a murder case becomes strangely influenced by the details of the case and ends up reenacting it in his own life. (Loosely based on the cases of Scott Jackson and Alonzo M. Walling in the murder of Pearl Bryan and Albert J. Frantz in the murder of Bessie Little.)
